With the second overall pick in the 2018 NHL Draft, the Carolina Hurricanes selected Andrei Svechnikov.

The Russian winger spent last season in the OHL, leading the Barrie Colts and tying for eight overall in the league with 40 goals in just 44 games. Prior to that, the 18-year-old starred for the USHL’s Muskegon Lumberjacks, leading the team with 58 points in 48 games.

Svechnikov is the highest selection by the Hurricanes since they took Eric Staal second overall in 2003.
