The Checkers added two new faces to their roster today, signing forward Scott Davidson to an amateur tryout and defenseman Eric Williams to a professional tryout.
Williams’ Northeastern team was ousted in the first round of this year’s NCAA tournament, as the blue liner finished his collegiate career with 57 points (18g, 39a) in 156 games over four seasons. The Ontario native tied for the team lead among defensemen in goals as a freshman and tied for the lead in assists his sophomore season and helped lead Northeastern to conference titles in 2015-16 and 2018-19. Following the conclusion of his college career, Williams joined the ECHL’s Manchester Monarchs, who added him to their postseason roster. The 23-year-old made his pro debut for the Monarchs, picking up two assists and a plus-three rating in two ECHL games.
The Checkers head to Cleveland this week to wrap up the regular season with a pair of contests against the Monsters on Thursday and Friday before embarking on the Calder Cup playoffs.
