With their regular season now over, the Carolina Hurricanes have recalled defenseman Jake Bean as they prepare for their upcoming first-round playoff series with Washington.

Bean, who did not play in the Checkers’ game on Saturday as a precaution ahead of this planned recall, will also miss Sunday’s rematch against the Thunderbirds. Charlotte, which has already clinched the Macgregor Kilpatrick Trophy with three games remaining, likely will not start its own playoff schedule until after the Hurricanes have played three or four games.

Bean becomes the seventh healthy defenseman on the NHL roster. Meanwhile, the Checkers are left with six blueliners of their own for Sunday’s game against Springfield.

Bean, 20, currently ranks eighth among all AHL defensemen and first among rookie blueliners with 44 points in 70 games.
