While the clubs stayed tied for most of the game, a late penalty gave way to the Bruins handing Charlotte its third road loss of the season by a 2-1 score.

The Checkers took an early lead in the first period thanks to an Andrew Poturalski blast off a slick feed from Greg McKegg, only to be scoreless throughout the next two frames. Providence evened the score in the middle frame and then, despite immense pressure by the visitors in Bruins territory down the stretch, it was Peter Cehlarik who capitalized on a man advantage in the final five minutes of regulation to give his team the 2-1 win.

Charlotte peppered Providence goalie Zane McIntyre with 26 shots but were only able to put one on the board. Veteran Scott Darling, who cleared waivers and was assigned to the Checkers earlier today, recorded 21 saves for the night as he took his place between the pipes for the second time this season for Charlotte.
