Skating in their third game of the weekend, the Checkers couldn’t muster any offense against Bridgeport, falling to the Sound Tigers 1-0.

After weathering a first period that saw Charlotte outshoot them 14-5, the Sound Tigers broke through early on in the second. Kellen Jones corralled an errant clearing attempt up the middle and launched a wide-open shot from the slot that found the back of the net to give Bridgeport a lead, and that would be all the home squad needed.

The Checkers would fire 39 shots on goal and were afforded five man advantages throughout the night but couldn’t solve Bridgeport netminder Kristers Gudlevskis, who denied every chance he was faced with. Jeremy Smith turned in a strong effort on his end of the ice, making 22 saves in his first appearance since Feb. 3, but was saddled with the loss as the buzzer sounded for a 1-0 final.
