Ahead of the NHL trade deadline, Canes have acquired Tomas Jurco from the Florida Panthers organization and dealt Cliff Pu to Florida.

The 26-year-old Jurco signed an AHL contract with Springfield in January and had 10 points (4g, 6a) in 14 games during his tenure with the team. A second-round pick by Detroit in 2011, the forward has produced 106 points (50g, 56a) in 163 AHL games with Grand Rapids, Rockford and Springfield, and helped the Griffins capture a Calder Cup in 2013. Jurco has also logged 201 career NHL games with Detroit and Chicago, posting 50 points (22g, 28a) along the way. Jurco will report directly to Charlotte.

The acquisition comes at the same time that the Hurricanes traded Pu to the Florida Panthers, Springfield’s NHL affiliate, for future considerations. The rookie forward, who was part of the return in Carolina and Buffalo’s trade for Jeff Skinner this summer, appeared in 44 games for the Checkers and recorded six points (1g, 5a).
