Trevor Carrick is headed back to the Hurricanes for the second time this week.

An injury concern to Ryan Murphy has led to Carolina recalling Carrick as an insurance policy should he be unable to play tomorrow night in Minnesota.

Carrick, a second-year pro, earned his first NHL recall and made his NHL debut on Tuesday against Washington, filling in for a sick Ron Hainsey and missing the Checkers’ 1-0 loss to Rockford.

With Hainsey returning to the lineup, Carrick was assigned back to Charlotte yesterday afternoon, but is now headed back to the NHL. The move will cause the Checkers’ top-scoring defenseman to miss at least tonight’s tilt in Milwaukee, which kicks off a three-in-three for Charlotte.

The Checkers will still carry seven defensemen into tonight’s game thanks to their signing of University of Guelph captain Nick Trecapelli to an ATO.
