Checkers forward Brock McGinn will miss Sunday’s game against Hamilton due to an AHL suspension.
The league made the announcement Saturday night after determining that the rookie was guilty of checking to the head during Friday’s 2-1 loss to Hamilton at Time Warner Cable Arena. McGinn, a 20-year-old rookie, has two points (1g, 1a) in eight games this season.
Though fellow rookie Carter Sandlak, a healthy extra on Friday, could step in to McGinn’s spot in the lineup, the Checkers could still be down one forward depending on the health of alternate captain Ben Holmstrom. Holmstrom left Friday’s game with an apparent upper-body injury and did not return, with coach Jeff Daniels not able to provide an update on his condition immediately following.
The Checkers do have eight healthy defensemen on the roster, making it a possibility that they could dress an extra blueliner without having to make a last-minute recall.
