Checkers forward Brock McGinn will miss Wednesday’s game against the San Antonio Rampage after the AHL suspended him one game for charging.
The incident, which occurred in the team’s most recent game in Hamilton last Saturday, results in the rookie’s second suspension of the season. He also missed one game for targeting the head on Oct. 31, also in a game against Hamilton. McGinn did not receive a penalty on either play.
This is the third suspension handed to the Checkers this season, with fellow rookie Carter Sandlak receiving four games for an incident that occurred against Texas on Nov. 8.
McGinn, 21, ranks tied for fourth on the Checkers and first among rookies with 19 points. He is tied for third on the team with 10 goals, five of which have come in his last seven games.
The Checkers currently do not have an extra forward on their roster to replace McGinn but are expected to add one on Wednesday. Defenseman Austin Levi will also join the team Wednesday to offset the loss of Rasmus Rissanen, who earned his first NHL recall on Monday and will spend the rest of the season in Carolina, as will fellow defensemen Michal Jordan and Ryan Murphy.
