Carter Sandlak is on his way to Florida, as the Checkers have assigned the second-year pro to the Everblades of the ECHL.
The 22-year-old forward has been a healthy extra more often than not this season, suiting up for only five of the team's 14 games so far, most recently on Halloween against Lake Erie. The move to Florida should garner Sandlak a sizeable chunk of ice time, which will be a positive in the young forward's development.
This marks the second ECHL stint of Sandlak's career. Last season after finding himself similarly in and out of the lineup, Sandlak was sent to Florida toward the end of the season for three games. He enjoyed success with the Everblades, notching three assists during his stay.
The Everblades play at home three times this week- Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, while the Checkers head out for a quick two-game road trip to Texas this weekend. With Sandlak in Florida and T.J. Hensick sidelined with an injury, the Checkers still have 13 healthy forwards heading into their weekend matchups.
