The Charlotte Checkers have recalled forward Alex Aleardi from the ECHL’s Florida Everblades.
Aleardi, 22, scored 17 points (7g, 10a) in 15 games with the Everblades since the Checkers, who signed him to an AHL contract this past offseason, assigned him there for the first time on Nov. 25. The native of Farmington Hills, MI, had five points (2g, 3a) in 13 AHL games with Charlotte to start the season.
The recall comes just prior to the Checkers’ rematch with the Texas Stars at 3 p.m. on Sunday. During Saturday night’s 4-1 loss, Charlotte forward Gabriel Desjardins, a professional tryout signing from the Everblades, left near the end of the game with an apparent injury.
In 57 career AHL games with Springfield and Charlotte, Aleardi (5’9”, 167 lbs.) has 23 points (10g, 13a) and 27 penalty minutes. In 38 total ECHL contests with Evansville and Florida, the undrafted winger scored 40 points (21g, 19a).
A teammate of Checkers defensemen Austin Levi and Beau Schmitz in junior hockey with the Plymouth Whalers, Aleardi totaled 227 points (104g, 123a) in 321 career OHL games over five seasons with Kitchener, Belleville, Plymouth and Windsor.
