With injuries mounting on defense, the Checkers have recalled rookie Justin Agosta from the ECHL’s Florida Everblades. He expected to be available to make his AHL debut during Sunday’s game against Manitoba.

Since signing an AHL contract with the Checkers prior to this season, Agosta, 25, has posted eight points (4g, 4a) in his first 10 professional games for the ECHL’s Florida Everblades. The 6-foot-3, 205-pound native of East Meadow, NY, finished with 67 points (12g, 55a) over four collegiate seasons with the University of New Hampshire and Quinnipiac University.

The Checkers recall Agosta following injuries to Danny Biega, who did not practice this past week and missed Saturday’s home-opening 3-0 loss to Manitoba, and Keegan Lowe, who left that game due to injury and did not return. Following the game, coach Mark Morris suggested that Lowe was doubtful to play Sunday.

Meanwhile, Brett Pesce, who started the season in Charlotte, remains in the NHL with Carolina.
