Tyler Muszelik is headed back to the Queen City, as the Checkers have recalled the netminder from their ECHL affiliate in Savannah.
Muszelik, 22, made his pro debut in Charlotte’s second game of the season, stopping 20 of 23 shots in a 3-2 loss to Hershey. The rookie goalie also appeared in one game for the Ghost Pirates and earned a 25-save win.
Muszelik joins Kirill Gerasimyuk as the goaltending platoon for Charlotte heading into this weekend, as Cooper Black was recalled by Florida earlier on Tuesday with Jacob Markstrom sidelined.
Additionally, the Checkers have assigned forward Kasper Lundell and defenseman Emil Pieniniemi to Savannah.
Lundell, 22, has logged one game for the Checkers thus far - making his North American pro debut on Oct. 4 in Hershey. The Finnish forward spent the previous three seasons in his native country’s top league before making the jump to North America this season.
Pieniniemi, 21, has yet to make his Charlotte debut. A third-round pick by Pittsburgh in 2023, he recorded 11 points (6g, 5a) in 26 games last season for the ECHL’s Wheeling Nailers and three points (1g, 2a) in nine games for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in the AHL.
The Checkers return to action this weekend with a pair of tilts on home ice against the Springfield Thunderbirds.
