The following is a letter from Charlotte Checkers Owner & CEO Michael A. Kahn concerning the team's recent affiliation change.
Dear Fans,
As you may have seen by now, today we announced that we have entered into an affiliation with the NHL’s Florida Panthers.
Though we had previously hoped to continue our affiliation with the Hurricanes, we are very excited to begin working with Florida. The Panthers are dedicated to developing players at the AHL level, and we are confident that this agreement will lead to success for both organizations when we are able to resume play.
As a valued member of our team, I wanted you to know that we remain committed to doing everything we can to provide an environment in which our players, regardless of which NHL organization they belong to, can be successful. Dating back to my own days as a season ticket holder before becoming owner of the team, I have always wanted to see a winner and that will certainly not change now.
We will have more turnover than usual in terms of players and coaches, but we will still be the Charlotte Checkers. Same colors, same logo, same uniforms. From the first days of hockey here in 1956 to the 2019 Calder Cup championship, this organization has a winning tradition that we will strive to continue as we enter what will, in many ways, be a completely new era.
As always, we sincerely thank you for your support and very much look forward to seeing you back at the coliseum as soon as possible.
Michael A. Kahn
