The AHL announced today that Warren Foegele has been added to the 2018 All-Star Classic.
The 21-year-old currently leads all AHL rookies with 20 goals, a total that ties him for third in the league overall. Foegele also leads the AHL in shorthanded points (6) and is tied for the lead in shorthanded goals (4), both of which are franchise records, and is tied for the league lead among rookies in game-winning goals.
A third-round pick by Carolina in 2014, Foegele ranks second on the Checkers in both goals and points and needs just five more goals to pass Lucas Wallmark’s franchise rookie record that was set last season.
Foegele joins Valentin Zykov on the Atlantic Division’s team for the 2018 All-Star Classic, which begins in Utica, NY, with the All-Star Skills Competition on Jan. 29 and continues with the All-Star Challenge on Jan. 30. Foegele is the 13th player in franchise history to be named to an AHL All-Star team and the first rookie. This is only the second time in the Checkers’ eight-year AHL history that multiple forwards have been selected to the same All-Star game.
