As they head into the NHL ALL Star Break, the Hurricanes have assigned defenseman Ryan Murphy to Charlotte.

Since being recalled to the NHL on Dec. 30, the 21-year-old defenseman has recorded four assists in 10 games, giving him a total this season of five points in 16 games. After spending part of last season with the Hurricanes, Murphy now has 17 points (2g, 15a) in 64 NHL games.

The former first-round draft pick has been an efficient point producer during his time with the Checkers. In 48 career AHL games, Murphy has accumulated 41 points (3g, 38a). He led the Checkers in scoring this season until his promotion, chipping in 17 points (all assists) in 23 games on the Charlotte blue line.

Murhpy was also named to the 2015 AHL All Star Classic, the only Checkers player to be given the honor. With this assignment, the young defenseman is expected to participate in the event, which will be held in Utica, NY on Jan. 25 and 26.
