Joakim Nordstrom’s stay with the Checkers was expectedly brief.
After the forward played in Charlotte’s first two home games at Bojangles’ Coliseum over the weekend, the Carolina Hurricanes ended his conditioning stint by bringing him back shortly after Sunday’s game. He will rejoin the team as it prepares for a road games against the New York Rangers this Tuesday.
In his first two AHL games since suiting up for Rockford in February of last season, Nordstrom, who the Hurricanes acquired from Chicago just prior to the season, scored one goal on the power play to give the Checkers a 2-0 lead on Sunday. Though Charlotte would go on to lose that lead, it would ultimately prevail and earn its first win at Bojangles’ Coliseum thanks to a last-minute winner by Jake Chelios.
The move leaves the Checkers with 14 forwards on its roster, though it needed 13 of them to field a full lineup on Sunday after an injury to defenseman Tyler Ganly in warmups dropped the team down to just five healthy blueliners. Charlotte is now off until hosting Milwaukee at the coliseum this Friday and Saturday.
