The Hurricanes have recalled Phil Di Giuseppe and Ryan Murphy from Charlotte.
Di Giuseppe has split his second pro season between the Checkers and Hurricanes, making his NHL debut on Dec. 5. In 18 games with Carolina, the forward has recorded eight points (3g, 5a), while he has put up 18 points (8g, 10a) in 25 games with Charlotte. Di Giuseppe has become a consistent presence in the lineup for the Hurricanes, with his most recent assignment allowing him to play three extra games during the NHL All-Star break.
After starting the seaason with the Hurricanes, Murphy spent much of the last two months in Charlotte, where he has chipped in 16 points (5g, 11a) in 22 games. In the NHL, the young blue liner has four assists in 18 games so far this season. His recall is prompted by the Hurricanes' placing defenseman Brett Pesce on IR with a lower body injury.
The Checkers could be shorthanded when they return from the All-Star break, as Keegan Lowe, Zach Boychuk, Ethan Werek and Justin Shugg were all absent from Saturday's loss, with Lower exiting the game and not returning.
