THE STORYLINES

OUT WEST

The Checkers are heading West for their first ever trip to Colorado, where they’ll face the Eagles in a pair of midweek matchups.

The contests mark the first time that the Checkers have ever squared off with the Eagles, who became an AHL franchise in 2018-19. It is also the furthest West the Checkers have travelled for a regular season game since November 2023, when they visited San Diego and San Jose.

This is the first of two Western Conference opponents on Charlotte’s schedule this season, alongside the Iowa Wild - who the Checkers play later on this road trip.

LOCKING IT DOWN

Since dropping a 6-2 contest to the Bruins on Oct. 10, the Checkers have really tightened things up defensively. Over the last five games, they have surrendered eight total goals and have not given up more than two in a single contest.

With Cooper Black earning two NHL recalls already this season, the Checkers have leaned on Kirill Gerasimyuk and he has delivered. The Russian netminder has started four of the team’s last five games and has posted a stellar 1.48 goals-against average and a .930 save percentage.

They’ll go strength on strength with the Eagles, who boast a top-five defense and have been propelled by Ilya Nabokov and his .945 save percentage - though they are coming off a 4-1 loss to Bakersfield in their last outing.

ON THE ROAD AGAIN

The Checkers are back out on the road after splitting each of their first two series away from home - giving them a 2-2-0-0 record on the road compared to a 3-1-0-0 mark on home ice. The good news for Charlotte is that Colorado has trended in the opposite direction thus far this season, going 3-0-1-0 on the road but 2-2-0-0 at home.
