Following their elimination from the Stanley Cup Playoffs, the Hurricanes have assigned defenseman Haydn Fleury to Charlotte.
Additionally, Patrick Brown and Jake Bean were assigned to the Checkers prior to the start of Thursday’s Game 4.
Fleury appeared in eight playoff games for Carolina after logging 20 regular season contests. The 2014 first-round pick spent much of his season bouncing between Carolina and Charlotte, where he put up 10 points (2g, 8a) in 28 AHL games.
Brown and Bean have been going between the NHL and AHL on paper to comply with their emergency recall status during Carolina’s playoff run. Charlotte’s captain – who played eight games during the NHL playoffs – last donned a Checkers sweater in the regular-season finale, capping off a career-best 35-point (19g, 16a) campaign. Bean – who did not dress for Carolina in the postseason – turned in a stellar regular season for the Checkers, racking up 44 points (13g, 31a) and earning a spot on the AHL’s All-Rookie Team. He also appeared in all four of the Checkers’ first-round games against Providence, picking up a pair of assists.
In a corresponding move, the Checkers have assigned defenseman Derek Sheppard to the ECHL’s Florida Everblades, who trail Newfoundland 2-1 in their Eastern Conference Finals series.
The AHL’s Eastern Conference Finals between Charlotte and the Toronto Marlies kicks off with Game 1 on Friday night at Bojangles’ Coliseum.
