Alex Nedeljkovic is headed to the NHL for the first time this season as the Hurricanes have recalled the netminder from Charlotte.
The third-year pro has appeared in 18 games for the Checkers this season and currently leads the AHL in wins with a 12-4-0 record. Nedeljkovic, a second-round selection in the 2014 draft, made his NHL debut for the Canes last season, stopping all 17 shots he was faced with in 30 minutes of relief action.
In a corresponding move, the Checkers have recalled Jeremy Helvig from the Florida Everblades. The rookie netminder has logged 10 games with the Everblades this season, going 4-3-0 with a 2.69 goals-against average and a .902 save percentage.
Helvig will join the Checkers in Hartford as they prepare to face the Wolf Pack tomorrow and the Springfield Thunderbirds on Saturday.
