With one more game remaining on their California road trip, the Hurricanes have recalled forward Saku Maenalanen from Charlotte.
This marks the first NHL recall for Maenalanen, who is in his first season as a North American pro after inking a one-year, two-way contract with Carolina over the summer. The 24-year-old Finn has put up 11 points (4g, 7a) in 23 games for the Checkers this season and is tied for the league lead with two shorthanded goals and three shorthanded points.
Maenalanen, who played alongside current Canes Sebastian Aho and Teuvo Teravainen at the 2018 World Championships, finished last season tied for 11th in scoring in Finland’s Liiga with a career-best 46 points.
