The Checkers have added some depth to their depleted blue line by recalling Derek Sheppard from the ECHL’s Florida Everblades.
The 24-year-old rookie leads all Florida defensemen in scoring with 40 points (14g, 26a) in 57 games this season and was earlier today named to the ECHL All-Rookie Team.
Sheppard, who signed an AHL contract with Charlotte earlier this season, has appeared in six games for the Checkers this season and picked up one assist.
With Josiah Didier on the mend from an injury and Haydn Fleury in the NHL until Calvin de Haan can return to action, the addition of Sheppard gives the Checkers’ seven healthy options on the blue line.
