The Checkers have added another piece at forward, signing Boston Leier to a professional tryout.
The 26-year-old is in his second full pro season and has 19 points (10g, 9a) in 29 games for the ECHL’s Kalamazoo Wings.
Leier, a Sakatoon native, has 42 AHL games under his belt with Belleville, totaling 12 points (5g, 7a) along the way. He spent the majority of rookie year with the Senators in 2018-19, while logging six points in 10 regular-season ECHL games for Brampton and tying for second on the team with five points (2g, 3a) in six postseason contests.
Prior to turning pro, Leier recorded 167 points (68g, 99a) in 259 WHL games over five seasons with Medicine Hat and Regina before spending four years at Acadia University, where he tallied 114 points (54g, 60a) in 111 games.
The addition of Leier gives the Checkers 12 healthy options at forward for tonight’s contest in Hershey – not including Derek Shepaprd, a defenseman by trade who has suited up at forward for the last few games.
