The Checkers reduced their training camp roster by two players on Tuesday by assigning defenseman Justin Agosta to their ECHL affiliate, the Florida Everblades, and releasing forward Jared Staal.
The Hurricanes made their final round of cuts Saturday, sending forwards Brock McGinn and Derek Ryan and defensemen Jaccob Slavin and Brett Pesce to Charlotte.
With next weekend’s season-opener inching ever closer, the Checkers’ new batch of rookies continue to prepare to take that next step in their careers. For most, they have left their junior or college teams behind to make the leap to the professional game, a transition that carries with it a bevy of adjustments and obstacles.
While the Checkers are likely to have Drew MacIntyre manning their net more often than not again this season, he might be a little harder to recognize at first.
