The AHL has handed down a one-game suspension to Keegan Lowe stemming from Sunday's game.
After the final buzzer of Sunday's 4-1 win over Manitoba, Lowe and Moose defenseman Darren Kramer dropped the gloves and fought. Both players earned a five-minute major for fighting, plus a 10-minute game misconduct for "fighting other than during periods of game", with Kramer also getting another 10-minute misconduct for fighting for the second time in a game. The incident has earned both Lowe and Kramer a one-game suspension.
This is the first suspension for Lowe, who is in his third pro season. He will miss Friday's matchup with Chicago, but will be eligible to return for Saturday's rematch.
The loss of Lowe leaves the Checkers with five healthy defensemen available for Friday, as Danny Biega has yet to return to the ice since suffering an injury earlier this month. The Checkers could go with a few different options, either recalling a player from the Florida Everblades, signing a player to a PTO or having a forward dress as a defensemen, which they did earlier this season with Kyle Hagel.
