To celebrate five years of Charlotte AHL hockey, we asked you, the fans, to pick the All-Time Checkers All-Star team! Your votes have been counted and we are happy to announce the winners throughout this week. Thank you to everyone who voted!

Center was a fairly stacked group in terms of contributions, including the third-ranked all-time goal scorer (Zac Dalpe), two current NHLers (Riley Nash and Victor Rask) and an All Star (Jon Matsumoto). But when it came down to it, none of them made as much of an impact on the franchise as Brett Sutter.

Voting Breakdown: Center

1. Brett Sutter 75%
2. Riley Nash 16%
3. Victor Rask 3%
4. Zac Dalpe 5%
5. Jon Matsumoto 1%
A sixth-round draft pick of the Calgary Flames in 2005, Sutter joined the Carolina organization via trade in 2010. After helping lead the Checkers to a berth in the Eastern Conference Finals that year, Sutter returned the next season and was named captain. He would keep the role for three seasons, making him the longest tenured team captain in the franchise's history.

Sutter possessed an well-rounded game that allowed him to help the team in every facet of the game. Aside from ranking in the top five in games played, goals, assists and points, he had a physical edge and didn't hesitate to drop the gloves if need be, ranking third all-time in penalty minutes.

Where he really shined was in the big moments. Sutter played an integral part in the team's first playoff appearance, recording 14 points in 16 games as the Checkers fought their way to the Eastern Conference Finals, where they ran into the eventual Calder Cup champion Binghamton Senators. He ranks second all-time in playoff scoring and is tied for first in playoff games played.

Sutter's role as one of the best leaders in the team's history, as well as his transformation from a role player to a bona fide scorer (put up 40+ points in each of his final two seasons with the Checkers after never scoring more than 29) made him one of the most impactful players to don a Checkers sweater and your overwhelming choice for the center slot on the All-Time All-Stars team.

All-Time Checkers Stats

255 GP (4th), 56 goals (4th), 86 assists (3rd), 142 points (3rd), 273 PIM (3rd)

Best Season

In 2012-13, his sixth professional season, Sutter broke out offensively, putting up 48 points (19g, 29a) in 70 games. He not only established career highs in goals, assists (a mark that he would tie the next year) and points, he tied what was then the franchise record for most points in a single game (4) on three separate occasions and recorded his first pro hat trick.

Where Is He Now?

Sutter signed a two-year, two-way contract with the Minnesota Wild this past July. He has 16 points (6g, 10a) in 39 games with Iowa this season, including his 500th AHL game. Sutter has also appeared in 5 NHL games this season with Minnesota, recording three assists.
