The 14th overall pick in the 2008 NHL Draft, Boychuk entered the league as a 20-year-old, splitting his rookie campaign between the AHL and NHL. In his second full pro season, and first in Charlotte, Boychuk broke out, leading the Checkers in scoring with 65 points in 60 games, nearly doubling his output from his rookie season.

Boychuk combined with Chris Terry to create the most explosive one-two punch in the team's history. Boychuk led the team in scoring twice and never finished lower than fifth in goal scoring, pacing the team twice. In fact, he led the team in at least goals or points in three of the franchise's four year's of existence, finshing second in goals and third in points for the 2012-13 season.

In the Checkers' two playoff appearances, Boychuk rose to the occasion, tying for third in scoring during the 2011 run to the Eastern Conference Finals and leading the team during the 2013 first-round exit. Those two successful postseasons helped Boychuk become the team's all-time playoffs scoring leader.

Similar to Terry, Boychuk has become a fixture in Charlotte, ranking second all-time in assists and points and recently claiming the franchise's all-time goals lead. He also turned in the most dominate single season that Charlotte has ever seen, racking up 36 goals and 74 points in 2013-14, leading the league in the former and ranking second in the latter. Boychuk will long be known as the most lethal scorer in the team's history.
