The Checkers made a pair of roster moves today, assigning defenseman Justin Agosta to the ECHL's Florida Everblades and recalling forward Carter Sandlak.
Agosta was initially called up to help fill out a depleted blue line in Charlotte, but the Checkers have started to regain some of those bodies back. Danny Biega, Keegan Lowe and Tyler Ganly have all returned from injuries, while Ryan Murphy was recently assigned from the Hurricanes. That left the Checkers with eight healthy defensemen, so the move to Florida should net the rookie significantly more playing time than he would get here.
Agosta was solid during his first AHL stint, stepping in to a shorthanded situation and holding his own. The rookie blue liner appeared in eight games for Charlotte and recorded one assist.
Sandlak was assigned to Florida after suiting up for just five of the Checkers' first 14 games this season. During his six-game stint with the Everblades, the second-year pro totaled four points (1g, 3a) and six penalty minutes.
With the addition of Sandlak, the Checkers now have 14 healthy forwards on their roster, including Drayson Bowman and David Wohlberg, both of whom are on PTOs.
