The Checkers have assigned rookie winger Carter Sandlak to the Florida Everblades of the ECHL.

Sandlak has spent the entirety of his rookie campaign with Charlotte, recording four points (2g, 2a) in 38 games. But when the Checkers have found themselves with extra forwards, the 21-year-old has often been the odd man out. Sandlak has been a healthy scratch in eight of the last nine games for Charlotte and 12 of the last 19. The move to Florida will presumably give the young forward more playing time.

An undrafted left wing, Sandlak signed a three-year entry-level deal with Carolina in December 2013 after five seasons in the OHL with Guelph, Belleville and Plymouth. His most productive season came in his final junior campaign, when he put up 48 points (24g, 24a) in 61 games with the Whalers.

With Chad LaRose back from injury and Ben Holmstrom's suspension over, the Checkers are currently carrying 13 forwards, meaning they will have to continue to make one player a healthy scratch for the time being. They return to action tomorrow night when they visit the Norfolk Admirals.
