With reinforcements arriving from the NHL and health improving, the Checkers cut their roster by two this week.
The team made its first move by releasing forward Andrew Rowe from his professional tryout contract just prior to their game against the Toronto Marlies on Thursday. Immediately following the game, Charlotte reassigned defenseman Austin Levi to Stockton of the ECHL.
The moves still leave the Checkers, who saw center Brody Sutter return from a two-month injury absence on Thursday, with one extra forward heading into Friday’s rematch with the Marlies. They are down to just six defensemen but will enjoy a four-day break before returning to action for the first of a three-in-three set in Norfolk next Wednesday.
Rowe, 26, played 28 games with the Checkers after initially joining the team from his ECHL club, the South Carolina Stingrays, on Nov. 2. During that time, the Stingrays captain notched five points (1g, 4a) in 28 games. He had only recently signed a new PTO with the club after the expiration of his initial 25-game agreement on Jan. 4
Levi, a 22-year-old , third-round draft pick by the parent Carolina Hurricanes in 2010, went scoreless with no penalty minutes in four games since joining the Checkers on Dec. 31.
