In order to patch up a depleted roster, the Checkers have signed forward Ryan Rashid to a professional tryout contract.
Charlotte's lineup had already taken a big hit prior to last night's contest when Brock McGinn and Phil DiGiuseppe were recalled by the Hurricanes, leaving them with just 12 forwards heading into the game. They were then dealt another blow when Brendan Woods exited the game early in the first period due to injury and did not return. To fill that hole for today's rematch, the Checkers went to the ECHL, bringing in Rashid from Greenville. Rashid is a somewhat familiar face for the organization, as he was invited to training camp prior to this season and was one of the last players cut.
Rashid, 25, is currently tied for third on the Swamp Rabbits in scoring with 13 points (6g, 7a) in 23 games this season. The second-year pro led the Elmira Jackals in scoring during his rookie campaign with 41 points (16g, 25a) in 65 games.
Prior to turning pro, Rashid spent four season at Niagara University, totaling 88 points (38g, 50a) in 143 career games and earning a spot on the AHA All-Rookie team his freshman year.
