Round 2, 42nd overall - (C) Jack Drury
The Hurricanes kicked off day 2 of the draft by selecting 18-year-old center Jack Drury. Described as a “high-end two-way player” and compared to the likes of Joe Pavelski by the television broadcast, Drury led the Waterloo Black Hawks and ranked fourth in the USHL with 65 points (24g, 41a) in 56 games.
The son of former NHLer Ted Drury and the nephew of Chris Drury, Jack is set to begin his college career next season with Harvard.
Round 4, 96th overall - (C) Luke Henman
After not picking in round three, the Hurricanes got back in the action early on in round four by taking forward Luke Henman. The 18-year-old native of Nova Scotia ranked fourth on Blainville-Boisbriand in assists (38) and fifth in points (47) last season, his first full QMJHL campaign.
Round 4, 104th overall - (RW) Lenni Killinen
With their second selection of the fourth round, the Hurricanes went back to the country of Finland, picking 18-year-old Lenni Killinen. The 6-foot-2 forward has spent the past few seasons coming up through Finnish junior leagues, notching four points in 10 games during his first taste of the pro level last season in Mestis. Killinen has also represented his home country internationally, including helping the Finns to a gold medal at the last U-18 World Junior Championship.
Round 6, 166th overall - (D) Jesper Sellgren
The Canes turned to the blue line for their fifth pick of the draft, selecting defenseman Jesper Sellgren. The 5-foot-8 Swede notched 12 points a season ago in Sweden’s second-highest league and is slated to join the SHL’s Lulea next season, the club that Checkers star Lucas Wallmark started his pro career with.
The 20-year-old has also suited up several times for his home country at international tournaments, including capturing a silver medal at the 2018 World Junior Championships.
Round 7, 197th overall - (G) Jacob Kucharski
The Canes used their first of two picks in the final round to select goaltender Jacob Kucharski. The Pennsylvania-born netminder manned the crease for the Des Moines Buccaneers last season, his first full campaign in the USHL. The 6-foot-4 Kucharski split starting duties and finished with eight wins, tied for the most on the Bucs.
Kucharski, 18, has committed to playing for Providence College.
