Chris Terry, the Checkers' all-time leading scorer, has signed a one-year, one-way contract wih Carolina.

In five full seasons from 2010-11 to 2013-14, Terry logged 299 games for Charlotte, making him the franchise's all-time leader in games played. The 26-year-old made the jump to the NHL this past season, making the team out of training camp and becoming a full-time player for the Hurricanes. Terry, who only had 13 NHL games under his belt heading into the 2014-15 season, put up 20 points (11g, 9a) in 57 games for Carolina, while appearing in just five games for the Checkers, all during a conditioning stint.

Terry started off the season hot, with five points in the first five games of the season, and finished the campaign tied for fifth on the club in goals. That play was enough to catch the eye of Hurricanes GM Ron Francis and earn Terry his first one-way contract.

"Chris took another step forward last year and showed that he could contribute offensively at the NHL level," said Francis in a press release.

Terry is now the second long-time Checker, along with Michal Jordan, to sign a one-way contract with Carolina this month. Given the nature of a one-way deal, Terry's signing is a strong indicator that the forward won't be donning a Checkers' sweater next season, save for any conditioning stints.

With 254 points (104g, 150a) in 299 games for Charlotte, Terry is the franchise leader in games played, assists and points. He held the mark for goals as well up until this past season, when Zach Boychuk surpassed him. Drafted in the fifth round of the 2007 draft, the former Plymouth Whaler is one of five players to have appeared in a game for the Checkers in each of their five AHL seasons.
