The Checkers are likely to add yet another player via Carolina’s activity at the trade deadline, with forward Anthony Camara set to come over from the Boston Bruins organization as part of a trade involving John-Michael Liles.
Camara, 22, has spent the past three seasons in the AHL with the Providence Bruins, where he has totaled 35 points (12g, 23a) and 136 penalty minutes in 150 games. While skating in 33 games for Providence this season, the 6-foot, 192-pound native of Toronto, Ontario, accumulated five assists and 54 penalty minutes.
Camara becomes the fourth player expected to join the Checkers via trade in the last two days, following forward Valentin Zykov, defenseman Dennis Robertson and goaltender John Muse.
As of this announcement, the Checkers had lost just one player, veteran goaltender Drew MacIntyre, as part of a one-for-one trade with Chicago for Robertson. However, Hurricanes General Manager Ron Francis suggested the team would recall multiple players from Charlotte to fill vacancies left by trades and injuries.
Prior to turning pro, Camara, Boston’s third-round draft choice (81st overall) in 2011, spent four seasons in the Ontario Hockey League with Saginaw and Barrie, where he totaled 122 points (66g, 56a) and 454 penalty minutes in 245 outings. He represented Canada at the 2013 World Junior Championship, where he posted two assists and 31 penalty minutes in six contests.
