The Hurricanes have reassigned Patrick Brown and Brody Sutter to Charlotte, giving them a much-welcomed boost at the forward position ahead of Friday’s home opener.
Brown, 22, played his first four professional games with Carolina to start the season, averaging 9:37 of ice time. The undrafted rookie out of Boston College, who signed with the Hurricanes as a free agent last spring, scored 15 goals and earned 15 assists (30 points) in 40 games while serving as team captain during his senior season. The 6-foot-1, 210 pound center, who played on the wing while with Carolina, took in one Checkers practice during the preseason and would be in line to make his AHL debut tonight.
Sutter, 23, is coming off his NHL debut in the Hurricanes’ 2-1 shootout loss to the New York Rangers on Thursday, during which he accumulated just over five minutes of ice time. The third-year pro did not miss a Checkers game during his recall. Sutter (6-foot-5, 203 pounds), who became the third member of his family to play for Carolina behind cousins Brandon and Brett, has 34 points (12g, 22a) in 99 career AHL games, all with Charlotte.
The moves give the Checkers 13 forwards and seven defensemen for their first game against the Grand Rapids Griffins.
