The Checkers blue line recieved a boost today as the Hurricanes assigned Ryan Murphy to Charlotte.

The first-round pick has suited up for 50 games for the Checkers and has poured in 41 points (3g, 38a). Murphy also represented Charlotte at last year's AHL All Star Classic.

Murphy has split each of his first two pro seasons between the NHL and AHL, though he has spent slightly more time in Carolina. The 22-year-old appeared in 17 games for the Hurricanes this season before being sidelined by a concussion. He is expected to be ready to go for the Checkers' matchup with Iowa on Saturday, which would mark his return to game action.

The addition of the offensive-minded Murphy should be beneficial for the Checkers, who have already seen sizeable production from their back end. They have already lost their two top rookies in Brett Pesce and Jaccob Slavin to recall, so adding Murphy should help lighten the workload for the rookies Tyler Ganly and Justin Agosta, as well as help boost Trevor Carrick and Jake Chelios' already impressive output.
