Since earning his first NHL transaction last week, Brendan Woods is really piling them on.
The Carolina Hurricanes announced Sunday that they have reassigned the second-year forward to the Checkers. After playing in Carolina’s 2-1 loss in Tampa Bay on Saturday, he is expected to join the AHL club in time for its 5 p.m. game against Oklahoma City on Sunday.
Woods, 22, has played two NHL games and missed one Checkers game while going up and down to Carolina twice since Dec. 22. He went scoreless in his two Hurricanes games while averaging close to six minutes of ice time per outing.
The return of Woods, who ranks tied for fourth on the Checkers with 13 points in 29 games, will give Charlotte one extra forward provided coach Jeff Daniels decides to retain the services of Gabriel Desjardins, who he signed to a professional tryout contract from the ECHL’s Florida Everblades on Saturday.
The Checkers lost 4-2 to Texas in their only game without Woods on Saturday.
