Following their afternoon matchup with Minnesota, the Carolina Hurricanes have reassigned forward Brody Sutter and defenseman Trevor Carrick to Charlotte.
Sutter, who earned his first NHL recall of the year on March 13, returns to the Checkers after logging three scoreless games with the Hurricanes. Carrick, who made his NHL debut earlier this week in Washington, comes back to the Checkers after a quick, one-game stint with the Canes where he filled in for an injured Ryan Murphy. The second-year pro went scoreless in today’s tilt with Minnesota, his second NHL contest.
Having just played this afternoon, Sutter and Carrick will not be available for the Checkers’ game in Milwaukee tonight, but should be ready for tomorrow’s visit to Rockford.
When they are reinserted into the lineup, both skaters should provide a solid boost for a Checkers’ club battling through a three-in-three weekend as they make one last push for the playoffs. With Carrick, the Checkers will get their top-scoring blue liner back, as well as a lethal power-play weapon, something they have been desperately needing. His addition, as well as the signing of Nick Trecapelli to an ATO, also helps to stabilize a thin defensive corps.
Up front, the addition of Sutter helps flesh out the Checkers’ lineup as they have lost several bodies to injury. His two-way style should be a solid spark for the team once he reenters the lineup.
