Heading into a matchup in Boston tomorrow, the Hurricanes have recalled forwards Patrick Brown and Sergey Tolchinsky.
This marks the second recall this season for both players. Brown, who was sent back to Charlotte directly after the Checkers’ shootout loss to Texas on Saturday, has logged five games with the Hurricanes this season. The second-year pro scored his first NHL goal last week in Carolina’s 4-3 win over the New York Rangers, as well as notching an assist and being named first star. After making the Hurricanes out of training camp last season, Brown has now appeared in 12 NHL games in his career.
With the Checkers, Brown has put up 23 points (13g, 10a), more than doubling his output from his rookie campaign.
Tolchinsky returns to the Hurricanes amidst the hottest stretch of his young career. The 21-year-old Russian has scored six goals in his last five games with the Checkers, including a pair in Saturday’s shootout loss to Texas, and eight points in his last six. Tolchinsky has totaled 36 points so far this season, making him the third highest scoring rookie in franchise history.
After earning his first NHL recall last week, Tolchinsky made his NHL debut against the New York Rangers on March 31 and earned his first point, tallying a helper on Justin Faulk’s second-period goal.
The Checkers return to action tomorrow night, when they kick off back-to-back contests against the Rockford IceHogs. Though they will be without Tolchinsky and Brown for at least Tuesday, they will have more forward for tomorrow’s contest than they had this past weekend, as the Hurricanes returned the trio of Brody Sutter, Brendan Woods and Brown to Charlotte late Saturday night.
