Trevor Carrick is headed for the NHL, as the Carolina Hurricanes have recalled the Checkers’ alternate captain.
The 24-year-old is tied for fourth among AHL blue liners in scoring this season with 17 points through 19 games and is tied for second with 14 helpers. Carrick, who finished last season as the all-time scoring leader amongst defensemen in franchise history, has recorded seven assists in his last four games.
A fourth-round pick by Carolina in 2012, Carrick made his NHL debut in 2015-16 and has logged three games with the Canes over his career, most recently last season. The move corresponds with Carolina’s placing of Brett Pesce on injured reserve following their win over Florida Friday night.
The Checkers, who host Laval for a pair of weekend games starting Saturday, currently have five healthy options at defense as Josiah Didier remains sidelined with a broken hand.
