Following the Checkers’ weekend sweep of Laval, the Hurricanes have recalled Jake Bean and Valentin Zykov from Charlotte.
This marks the first NHL recall for Bean, who picked up an assist Sunday night to extend his point streak to four games. The 20-year-old is tied for second among Charlotte blue liners with 11 points (3g, 8a) in 21 games and is tied for fourth among AHL rookie defensemen.
Zykov, who led the AHL in goals last season, was with the Checkers on a conditioning stint and recorded a pair of goals over his six-game stretch with the team. He returns to Carolina where he has logged three assists in 13 NHL games this season.
The Hurricanes return to action Tuesday in Montreal before returning to Raleigh for a Friday matchup against the Ducks, while the Checkers resume play Friday in Providence for a three-in-three road swing.
