The Checkers have made a swap in net heading into their return from the holiday break, recalling Daniel Altshuller from the ECHL’s Florida Everblades and assigning Alex Nedeljkovic there.

Altshuller returns to the Checkers after spending about a month filling in for the NHL-recalled Michael Leighton The third-year pro appeared in five games during that stay and made three starts, logging a 1-2-0 record.

The 22-year-old Altshuller spent the majority of his sophomore campaign with the Checkers last season, including beginning his AHL career with a 9-1-1 streak. He has looked strong between the pipes for the Everblades this year, going 5-0-1 with a 1.68 goals-against average, including a 38-save win last night.

Nedeljkovic joins the Everblades for the first time this season after spending all of his rookie campaign thus far with the Checkers. The first-year pro has had a bit of a bumpy start to the year, holding a 3-12-0 record and a 3.44 goals-against average.

The 20-year-old Nedeljkovic does have a bit of ECHL experience under his belt from the tail end of the 2014-15 season when he made three starts for Florida while on an ATO, winning two of those matchups.

The Checkers continue their road swing that began before the holiday break by visiting the Manitoba Moose Friday and Sunday. Altshuller will join the veteran Leighton as the goalie tandem that will look to break the team’s road winless skid.
