Chris Terry is making his second trip to Carolina in two weeks.
As they prepare to play the second of back-to-back games on the road, the Carolina Hurricanes recalled the dynamic forward on an emergency basis for tonight’s game in Pittsburgh. Terry, who ranks second on the Checkers and fifth in the AHL in scoring with 66 points in 63 games, played in Carolina’s game at Columbus on March 18 and is scoreless eight total NHL games this season with a pair of shootout goals.
Terry scored 20 points in 16 games during the month of March, making that the second-highest total in team history behind Zach Boychuk’s 22, also posted this past month. He has already set a career high in points, passing his old record of 64 and the previous club record of 65, both set in the 2010-11 season. Dating back to Jan. 23, he has 38 points in his last 30 games while being held off the score sheet just six times.
The 24-year-old, fifth-year pro is also one of the AHL’s best on the power play, where he has 14 goals (t-3rd in the league) and 34 points (4th AHL) to help the Checkers rank second in the league at 22.5 percent.
Terry’s departure leaves a considerable void on the Checkers’ roster, particularly with coach Jeff Daniels ruling Aaron Palushaj out for three weekend games in San Antonio and Oklahoma City. However, with Charlotte off until facing the Rampage on Friday, it’s possible that his recall won’t cause him to miss an AHL game, as was the case earlier this month.
