Jake Bean’s stellar play this season has resulted in him being named to the AHL’s All-Rookie Team.
The 20-year-old leads all rookie defensemen with 44 points through 70 games this season, ranks second with 13 goals and is tied for second with 31 helpers, all of which are franchise records for a first-year blue liner. Bean’s 13 goals are also tied for the most by any defensemen in team history.
The 13th overall pick in 2016, Bean made his NHL debut with Carolina this season and appeared in two games. He is currently on recall with the Hurricanes as they prepare for their first-round matchup with Washington.
Bean is the third player in franchise history to make a postseason all-star team and the second to be named to the All-Rookie team, joining Zac Dalpe’s 2010-11 campaign. Also making the 2018-19 All-Rookie team were Bakersfield goalie Shane Starrett, San Antonio defenseman Mitch Reinke, Syracuse forward Alex Barre-Boulet, Belleville forward Drake Batherson and Bakersfield forward Tyler Benson.
