After a brief stint with the Checkers, Phil Di Giuseppe is headed back to Raleigh.

The second-year-pro appeared in both games this weekend for Charlotte, recording a goal and an assist in Sunday's win over Manitoba to bring his AHL total this season to 16 points in 22 games.

The 22-year-old earned his first NHL recall earlier this season and stepped right in with eight points in 14 games for the Hurricanes. Di Giuseppe was a consistent piece in the Carolina lineup during the team's recent hot streak, but was forced out after suffering a concussion against Nashville on Jan. 2. This weekend's contests with Charlotte marked the young forward's return to game action.

The recall opens up a spot on a suddenly crowded Checkers' lineup. Carter Sandlak, Sergey Tolchinsky and Erik Karlsson all served as healthy extras this weekend after the arrival of Di Giuseppe and Brock McGinn, so look for one of them to be reinserted for this weekend's series with Chicago.
