In the first four seasons of the team's AHL existence, a handful of players have become synonymous with the Charlotte Checkers. Every one of those players now faces an uncertain future.
Thanks to a dismal month of November, the 2013-14 Charlotte Checkers had to play catch-up all season. Against the odds, they managed to do just that, but with a little too much time left on the clock.
As the Checkers reconvened for their exit interviews on Monday, most spoke of taking several weeks to decompress, forget about hockey for a while and enjoy the North Carolina weather that’s still considerably nicer than back home.
