The Checkers pulled off a thrilling comeback in their rematch with Rochester Saturday night, erasing a third-period deficit and claiming a 4-3 overtime win.
The Charlotte Checkers have recalled forward Robert Mastrosimone from the Savannah Ghost Pirates.
Mastrosimone, 24, leads Savannah with 15 points (nine goals, six assists) in 13 games this season. The Bay Shore, NY, native has posted seven points in his last six games, including a game-winning goal in overtime Friday night against the South Carolina Stingrays. Mastrosimone has appeared in one game this season for the Checkers, playing on October 12 in Providence against the Bruins.
He joined the Checkers on a one-year, one-way AHL contract in July of 2025. Before signing with Charlotte, Mastrosimone played 95 games with the Toronto Marlies over two seasons, logging 14 goals and 15 assists. Mastrosimone was drafted in the second round (54th overall) of the 2019 NHL Entry Draft by the Detroit Red Wings.
The Checkers chipped away at a steep deficit in their Friday night matchup with Rochester but couldn’t quite finish the job, falling to the Amerks 6-3.
The Florida Panthers announced today they have assigned goaltender Kirill Gerasimyuk to the ECHL’s Savannah Ghost Pirates from the Charlotte Checkers.
Gerasimyuk, 22, is 1-2-1 with Charlotte this season, sporting a goals-against average of 2.44 and a save percentage of .895. The St. Petersburg, RUS, native started on Saturday against the Toronto Marlies, making 15 saves. His first AHL win came in a 17-save shutout on November 15 in Iowa.
In two games with the Ghost Pirates, Gerasimyuk has recorded a 1-0-1 record, with a 1.42 GAA and a .952 save percentage.
